讲座摘要:
This talk will present highlights of Dr. Lao’s work on nanoscale photonic and electronic devices, and the ultrafast dynamic visualization of the nanoscale electron relaxation.

By engineering the morphology and patterns of the as grown nanowire arrays, the light absorption can be greatly enhanced via resonance. The conversion efficiency of a dye-sensitized solar cell(DSSC) with such a design can be improved by a factor of 10-20. Similar engineering designed can also be applied to other light conversion systems to improve their performance.

The nanoelectronic device performance can be designed by surface functionalization. The functional group on the surfactant determines the properties of the final electronic devices.

The ultrafast dynamics of the physical and chemical process of these devices can be study via a home-built Ulrafast Electron Crystallography (UEC) system. In the experiment, evolvement of the diffraction patterns of a nanowire array in femtosecond/picosecond time scale is investigated to elucidate the electron relaxation dynamics after femtosecond laser excitation. This is the first demonstrated UEC ultrafast dynamics study on nanowires.

个人简介:
美国佐治亚理工学院材料工程博士,国家首届“青年千人计划”专家,世界华裔杰出青年代表,中国海外交流协会理事。现担任深圳市国创新能源研究院清洁能源研究中心主任、战略发展部部长。从事可再生能源、光伏发电系统,新材料等前沿领域研究逾十年,先后师从佐治亚理工学院材料系美国AAAS院士、中科院外籍院士王中林教授,美国科学院院士、1999年诺贝尔化学奖获得者、“飞秒化学之父”艾哈迈德.齐威尔教授(Ahmed Zewail),美国工程院院士、加州大学伯克利分校张翔教授,取得了多项具有重大意义的科技突破和学术创新成果,分别发表于Science、Nano Letters、J. Am. Chem. Soc、 Adv. Mater等国际权威期刊,发表学术论文30余篇,申请专利3项,其中一些科研成果曾获Science杂志主编特别推荐,相关文章被引用达2000次以上。同时担任国际知名学术杂志特约编辑。
